In the still dark of night,
before the sun has begun
to slowly wash the sky of its blackness,
the multitudes of them call out
anxious for the day to begin.
Waking their mothers and all close by
they sing their morning songs.
Melodies of newborn feathered beings
uttering tiny yet deafening pleas to be fed.
For now they are nested safely
in the tree outside my bedroom.
Too soon they will fly away
and explore the glories of spring.
Free to fly to far off places,
to claim a different tree as their own.
Till then they are my pre-dawn wake up call.
‘Tis a sound grander than any symphony
and one that sets the tone for a new day.

This is so lovely...and I too have many birds singing in the early morning around my home... We even have some quail nesting on our patio cover?? We can't see them...but they are there, and made all the noises building the nest, and now it's quiet and once in awhile we hear the mom moving around??? The weather is so beautiful here right now so, the birds are just everywhere... my hummingbird feeder is ready, and I'm going to get a Finch feeder too... soon as I can get about again...the birds are on my priority list... :-)) Wonderful writing Marcia.. hugs, lindalaw
