My Silly Sweetheart

Sweetheart, your eyes are bright and blue
Your lips are red and your nose is too
Your posture is straight and always tall
Your spirit is strong, your humor is off the wall.

You’re strange, but I love you.

Each day in life, you make someone smile
And give them pleasure, a joker’s guile
You lift up hearts feeling low or down
You provoke a grin instead of a frown.

You’re probably making fun of them.

You’re the life of the party, you are, my friend,
To be that exuberant must be a sin
You spread good will and lots of good cheer
You hail the gang with gallons of beer…

I bet the beer is what makes your nose red.

You pass out on the sofa watching a football game
You wake up with a hangover, every time the same.
You grumble and growl about a sick headache
While going off to work for the weekly payday’s sake.

If your friends could see you now!

But I love you, your humor, your hair of brown
Even though you’re a kid acting like a clown.
But you know, you make life easier to digest,
Because I know, you’re only doing your best

To be the person you want to be.

Exceptional style with this lighthearted, yet very loving poem, Jeanette. I love the offset sentence between each verse -- cleverly done. All in all, again, an exceptional poem!
Love,
