I'm a safe driver, but on two occasions when I drove to and from work, two crazy drivers crashed into me while I drove along at a normal speed, in my own lane, never expecting some race driver would come plowing into me from a side road--or the other booze-smelling guy would go straight ahead instead of following the left inside turn lane. I happened to be in the outside turn lane. (This poem is symbolic of those two awful days.)
A Day Sorely Remembered
In the darkness of the night
When all is quiet and still
I hear the burst of raindrops
Falling upon my windowsill.
They drip-drop me fast asleep
On silent suspended wings
I snooze in cuddly warmth all night
Listening to the raindrops sing.
Nothing but the old alarm clock
Can wake me from my rest
I’d like to toss it against the wall
And sleep ‘til ten at best—
ButI don’t.
I’m off to work with coffee in hand
Sipping that good black stuff
To make me alert to crazy drivers
Who turn me into a raging gruff.
Some crazy fool blows his horn
Wanting me to run over the man in front
I shoot him a bird and flash an evil eye
And let him know I won’t pull that stunt.
Slightly scathed and tense as can be
I drive up to my worksite parking space
A motorcycle is sitting there
I’m ready to kill whoever took my place.
I drive around and curse a bit
Because all the spaces are taken
I beat the steering wheel with my fist
And feel my poor hand start aching.
God, give me some raindrops I want to cry
Let me go home and back to bed
But my boss is waving at me from the door
Ready to work on my poor head.
Angry, I pull behind that shiny red motorcycle
I sneer and block him in my space
No sooner am I sitting at my desk,
Than up comes a surly face—
The motorcycle man!!!!
I know, I know, I sigh real loud, then lie,
I’ve locked the car with my keys
You’ll just have to wait for triple A to come,
So be patient if you please.
Now, folks, I’m an even-tempered girl,
Who likes things to go smooth and nice
But I can tell you this day was ruined
When Mr. Motorcycle man threatened me twice.
I pretended I found an extra set of keys
I took them from my purse
I moved my car for Mr. Surly Rider
Feeling my life was cursed.
This story could easily continue
But my head has begun to pound.
I don’t want to think anymore
Needless to say, I feel terribly let down.
I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but it sure made me grin. I like your spunk!!

Boy can I relate to this poem! I think we've all had some pretty bad days where we wished we could simply go back to bed. Thanks for sharing this one. Holly
Enjoyed this so much...there are those days when you just want to crawl back into bed, pull the covers up and forget that the entire day! Been there done that! Loved this Jeanette...
