Shoes Thrown Beside the Road
Have you ever seen shoes on or alongside the road
Sometimes in pairs or maybe just a single one?
Did you wonder why people choose to throw them away
Or how being wasteful can seen to someone like such fun?
I wondered, too, and finally asked someone who knew
Who told me a story that was shocking to this day,
By saying, “If you kill someone and don’t want it traced
Back to your shoe prints, you throw your shoes away.”
“On the other hand,” he said, “if you find just one,
More than likely it will be the shoe of a child,
Accidently knocked or thrown out of an opened window
By a little kid whose behavior is just slightly wild.”
“Well, I found some blue jean shorts,” I say,
When I went for my morning walk today.
Why would someone discard perfectly good shorts
Especially throwing them alongside the roadway?”
“There is one case,” he says, “that sticks in my mind
Of a young girl following a sexual encounter in the back seat of a car
Her date threw her shorts away, laughing like a jerk
Until at her door they were met by her angry father’s snarl.”
My face turns red at the dreadful thought
Of a young girl sneaking home almost nearly nude.
How embarrassing and totally mortifying she must have felt
When her parents witnessed the after-effects of her interlude.
So now you have my version of why
Shoes and clothes are thrown alongside the roadway
Perhaps you know some other reasons for this occurrence

I'll take this opportunity to tell that our sheriff says not to pick up trash coolers, bottles or other like paraphenalia because they could have been used in meth production. He says to notify a law officer or a county sanitarian as to the location of the trash.....Jerry
