Mask of Torment

I wrote this short poem as I sat quietly in the crowd that gathered for our town's annual homecoming parade. This poem is based on the life of a family whose success was built upon lies and deception and has recently been exposed through the media and the justice system...

I removed this poem for copyright purposes as it will appear in my upcoming book. Sorry for the inconvenience...and as always thanks for stopping by my den!

Dear Joyce, success, when gained through lies and deception is no success at all, as you demonstrate here so effectively! Good observation in this piece and it teaches a good lesson!

Sage words oh, wise one. You never know what goes on behind the closed doors. We all have secrets we would rather keep hidden. One can only hope that they are small. Reg is right they always get exposed. Great work here. Liz

Clever, concise and revealing Joyce. I have to take a moment to laugh here noting our similarities when comparing the places and times the muse strikes. I'm glad you used that waiting time wisely because this is sooo very good, my friend.

"reaping what they sew" is often the case of those who stray from the paths of honesty and decency. An interesting write that leaves us with the message that what goes round comes round.

Strong and brave lines. More and more such masks are being recognized for what they are and the truths they've hidden seem to be a big part of these "days of reckoning" in which we're currently living. Enjoyed the read tremendously.

Been there, suffered that! Great write!! <3 'Pea' <3
PS: Don't know about you, but I find reading well-done true
crime stories soothing. All that evil beneath the surface. All that sweetness and light above it. W o n't read 'em unless I know
justice was eventually done. Way too many people get by with murder. Literally and otherwise! Hope you don't mind my little rant. Hit a nerve!! Expect nearly everyone who reads this feels the same. Thank you for reminding me to continue to look for the good. . .and remember to watch my back! Keep the wagons in a
circle!! With respect, admiration, and gratitude, More'n Abit Wary

Dear Joyce, I know of many who live like this and what's even worse they've actually convinced themselves they've done no wrong. "The rest of the world is at fault!" they say.

This is good work. It says what is important. No one is accused. But, we know that every hamlet and small town has at least one family which qualifies. 'Tis sad, indeed, that money, land and kindness with charity to all, don't mix well. Is it the mean folks who make the money, or is it the mean money that makes them terrible? Have lived in 12 towns and cities, and found the same kind in all of them. I've given them a name...or disease...or brand of shame:

Their must be a special place where liars go who ruin reputations with slanderous tales which seems to make them feel big, but also I feel sorry for those that believe them, without checking if what they say is true and spread those lies.

Joyce,

Seems a lot of that going around, to be a success you have to play dirty, no matter who gets hurt. While those trying to earn an honest buck or are below the poverty line get screwed. :( Spot on perfection.
