Mama stretched out on the ground,
baby floundering all around.
Legs so thin cannot steady his weight,
he hobbles fumbles till he gets it straight.
Nature knew to add spots on his back,
buckskin coat, warmth he will not lack.
He is getting tired only one hour old,
it is getting dark and turning cold.
Mama is standing, trying to teach,
he struggles so, his legs will not reach.
She licks his head, takes the lead,
he reaches up, it is time to feed.
He wiggles his ears and wiggles his nose,
getting so sleepy his eyes slowly close.
Down on the ground his legs folded under,
he cuddles with mama as they slumber.
The wonders of nature he is yet to see,
the birds, squirrels, rabbits all run free.
Give him time he will explore,
natures gifts are at his front door.
