The Gift

by D. Enise — Read all 64 poems by D. Enise

This poem is about a Beauty found out of the loss of love. A most Beautiful,,
"Real" experience that I was blessed enough to be of witness too.
The poem was written for a friend to help ease the pain in her heart.
Intentions of a remberance of the Beauty, and that even in the pain of such a loss.. Love "does" live on.

Poem Artwork
Where we thought we were going,
When we were ready to leave,,

A storm blew in, swaying the trees
The Sky darkened, and shaded the land
The clouds swirled in the sky up above.

He had been so weak the day before
with each moment passing, he tired much more.
The light in his eye, was strained, and yet tired.
He wouldn't give up!.. He was a fighter.

As I looked towards the road,
I watched my friend,
gathering whatevers ,, trying to hold on.
I thought of our task,
And tears how they came,
Then got back to work, the job at hand,
Time to load up, say good bye, so we thought.

I called out his name,
And I simply just asked
"Are you ready to go home?"
To this magnificent horse.

Up came his head , new light in his eye
His ears came forward
"Yes".. the reply.

He came on his own
And incredible feet
She joined him then, and they continued the treck
a new strength within him
A new look of peace.

We passed through the gate,
Closer our quest
Which way are we going?...
West ,East , or North.

The Winds blowing,
The tall grasses danced,
We looked to the horizon
& The Clouds opened up,

In front of our eyes,
Sun beams of Gold,
Shown down on the place
he told her to go.

On the horizon, off In the distance,
The vision we all were of wittness,
The answer before us, we did not deny
We were to follow the path, set by the sky.

At The Rainbows end.
A small group of trees
3 standing cottonwoods, with shimmering leaves.
Thick tall grass danced in the wind.
So beautiful this place, we thought was an end.

She opened the gate,
And he emerged standing proud,
In all his glory, his wisdom and years.

He stood in the grass,
His gaze at the land,
So noble the profile,
A vision to behold,
a gift to witness
This brave wonderful horse.
Who had given so much, so much of his heart.

He stood there glowing
His look so serene
His mane and tail flowing
like a flag in the breeze
He looked to her, and spoke with his heart.

This is not good bye we are saying,
Just a short pausing in time,
I am not Leaving.
We will not part
I am now, and forever, within your heart.
~*~
He then took his time,
and looked to us each
As if to say, I give you this gift:

Just look at the sky.
behold what you see,,
does this look like the end of me?
There is no end,
I live on in your hearts
And I give you this gift, should you ever forget.

I am of the wind, the storm in the sky,
The clouds up above as they float on by.
I am the gold rays , the warmth of sun,
the tall dancing grasses at the rainbows end.

He walked on his own
To the base of the trees
The meadow of grass, that stood to his knees.

He looked again,
and gazed at the land,
And then he moved forward,
And gently laid down.

So painful to see
my friends breaking hearts,
and at the same time, so touched were we all,
by the beauty we saw,
his gift at the change,
of what we had all thought

"Where" ,We had thought we were going...
Was To say a good bye..
We never got there.
And now we know why..

We were all given a gift
that will last through out time.
A vision of beauty, among all the tears.
A comfort and vision , of truth and of light
That all things we love, remain in our hearts.
