This piece came to me moments after I lost my 20 year old nephew not months after we were evacuated from New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina. I wrote this poem on 12/11/05 in less than 5 minutes. I knew God wanted me to recite this piece at the funeral.

Only God knows for sure, the pain of a mother's blues for those who've had the despair of walking in that mother's shoes;
One mother will never feel the same hurt as another where her liveliness depends on the spirit of one other.
Her male child's protection was destroyed by an evil and unseen early fate. No matter how fast she moved about her motherly duty, still too late.
Why? Should we dare ask? the answers remain unknown; Feelings of regret, unreached limits and uncertain bounds of love, but yet to his mother, no, it was never shown.
Unconditional love, hmmmm, it didn't seem to be enough for this precious male child was just a diamond in the rough.
He did not get the chance to spread his wings as far as they could go but only God knows for sure how deeply a mother's heart bled when her seed ceased to grow.
Only God knows for sure how many tears a mother will have to shed before her healing has been sewn and all her prayers have been said.
When all her grief is gone, will her sorrow still remain? Only God knows for sure how she'll carry on and surely not in vain.
A mother's saddened soul was released on the day her son was laid to rest; for only God knows for sure that this is a mother truly blessed.
An angel on earth, that, he was to her; plucked from his roots before he could understand the woes of human err.
And now that solemn peace has been bestowed upon a mother lost, only God knows for sure that these are the words that came from her male child's mouth:

Oh mama you showered me with your love and affection, though I am gone now I still feel that inseparable connection;
Never to forget all your long tiresome nights, continuously begging me and my brothers not to fight.
I promise to always remember when you came to aid my every call and the soft caresses of your hands upon my brow.
And all those years you gave up your personal time for me, oh mama all I long to see is your beautiful face rejoicing and not crying for me!!!

I knew that you had a lot that needed to be birthed out of you when we were in school. This poem is very moving.
