Civilization and gender roles are not as complicated as we treat them

Once there was a guy sitting in a tree
wondering how the world might otherwise be

Everything he did was a solitary task.
He really needed help but didn't want to ask

He could find food and kill it all alone
and he could find women a-plenty to bone

What he really missed by living in the tree
was the lack of assistance other men might be

And living in a tree fairly close by
was another suffering solitary guy

So down they came to create a clan
and separate duties were assigned each man

They got more done and soon there were others,
and so there developed a city of brothers

The city was run according to the whim
of him and him and him and him

As men will, they fought tooth and nail,
and the strong subdued the weak and the frail

They built great systems according to their joys
like commerce, science, arts and war toys

And as they created the world we live in
great service was rendered by a distant kin

She bore the young and provided diversion
for sexual dalliance and manly excursion

She had no head for complicated things
like science and the joy that conquest brings

Small and weak compared to her master
her brain but a fraction, she fashioned disaster

For lacking the ability to think as clear
she invented a method to deal with the bear

Call it guile if you like; deceit would work too
it was crafted of language designed to subdue

It juggled the truth in shameless acts
It was laden with hints instead of bare facts

It shocked and confused the elders and youth
whose chief occupation was the search for truth

And by and by in the city they made
the preeminence of men began to fade

for they were convinced by the sly agenda
that he was obliged to lie down and surrender

And so they gave up, not a shot being fired
and stupidly gave her all she desired

Now the city is run by a whole new rule
in which they are equal, though he is the fool

For not far away is a town still run
by a congress of males and the rule of the gun

The city of equals has changed a bit
its softer and caters to the female wit

and when the two towns collide some day
guess who will get their shit blown away
