Begin With A Flourish

I watched the waves of the old year
Roll out to sea to, I know not where

And the light that shone upon the sands
was like a new moon with new plans

I pondered the year that had just passed
And all the memories of  which I'll hold fast

Whether good or bad I'll treasure them all
For what took place is worthy of recall

Whether what we did brings pleasure or pain
It is what we are and should not be disdained

Whatever the reason we were created
Life is a gift to be appreciated

When we realize how swiftly it comes and goes
We should treat it like we do a beautiful rose

Think of the old  like a good book you cherish
As you begin the shiny new year, with a flourish
