O restless heart that can't be happy
what am I to do~I tried all this world
has to offer~but can't get thru to you
the appetite is never sated~societies
pleasures are overrated~we are always
in a race toward pleasure~but never
seem to reach the treasure~Oh elusive
happiness where can you be~am I
barking up the wrong tree~

I look to the stars that glitter so happily
what do they view that people of earth
don't see~The sun never fails to shine
nor does the moon forget to call on
the brine~the tides always listen as they
come and go~the weather does its thing
clear rain or snow~why can't people
find the proper way~to live their lives
without such dismay~methinks we listen
to the wrong authority~we need to recall
who created  humanity~

Your last line sums it all up... our restless souls need to look to the source from whence they came.

Oh yes, that is certainly the key to it all, listenng to the one "who created humanity" and on the Seventh Day he rested. How original and with such glorious flair.....

Be always safe,

A Song of Self to Self. Much to appreciate in RESTLESSNESS but I mostly find myself moved by the tone of the poet's voice: melancholy, wise, compassionate, and amused all at once.

However, you have happiness, give it away, as in your poetry, new happiness will fill your soul, I read a prayer flag once, something like this,{ some people search for happiness, others create it!} Keep on creating,
and being thankful to share it, that thankfulness in all things, poetry ,or otherwise should create bountiful happiness, just a thought.
wonderful thoughtful poetry, Hugs! Jasmin Horst

My dear Eileen, your message comes through this beautiful write loud and clear. What a wonderful lesson to teach this time of year especially. We search in so many places to find happiness and sometimes forget the one place we should look. Love and hugs, Bonnie

Eileen, your message resonates with the sentiment of truth from your heart -- as with all things I find, it is within the journey, the day to day living here on earth that happiness is found -- the loving, peaceful collaboration of living with our fellow man that offers the guiding light He wants us to use -- peace and love to you my dear friend -- JMW

I wonder, a man, alone on a far away deserted island...would he impatiently paces around out of boredom? Restless? or will take the opportunity in such a peaceful place to ponder on the light of the day and the mysteries of the universe at night?
Just a thought.

I think one would seek eternal pleasure which I think is nothing more than a mirage if not sought the proper way. Great thoughts

Very sadly, I think that has been the human race's state since we first walked this planet, and I doubt that it will ever change.

For someone who puts a premium on life, such as you do Eileen, the cost of learning to live with rottenness is what you wrote of in this poem . . . I guess we must have been on the same "thinking" page today, because I posted something similar I think that I wrote last month . . . Don't get me wrong, I love life even with all of its foibles, and will until I can no longer do for myself . . .
