I watched him as he blew his horn
piercing my heart just like a thorn
how well I recall those lips on me
in dreams of how it used to be
can it really be twenty years ago
when we were wrapped in loves glow
now I wonder how we let it drift away
neither of us made an effort to stay
even though our love was so strong
we both said it would last our life long
this feeling I have is it shared by him
or was I just a young man's whim
now his eyes have caught mine I see
recognition, my heart leaps   knowing it
will soon be intermission.......I wait........

etw.

The show must go on Eileen, you have your public waiting, refresh yourself, check your makeup, the character you are playing, or not,
see if you're in the groove, or out of it..........

Intermission, interval, pause...not to be applied to love, or care, or longing, or expectation, it should be only apply when pain is on the table. Sadness between the lines, that intermission is shriveling to nothingness by now.

Eileen,
The feelings are so real and honest and the longing palpable...and yet the interpretation is delightfully open. Gorgeous writing.
