Funny how certain things from our childhood stay’s with us forever. As a child my mom would tell me when you get up in the morning the first thing you do is look in a mirror and tell yourself it is going to be a great day, then put on your biggest smile to share with everyone else so they too can have a wonderful day. So each day that is how I greeted the family as I smiled and sang for them while happily dancing around. She would tell me the most beautiful stories of fairies and that I reminded her of them. I have always followed her words and to this day still hop out of bed and look in the mirror and I still share that smile and song. I may not dance around but I know I brighten other’s lives.

With this Pen In Hand

I’m looking at this pen,
I’m holding in my hand,
I hope words will come to me,
A few you can understand.
For most I write are words of love,
And some that have failed too,
So as I sit here wondering,
I’d like to write of something new.

I could write about the fairies,
My mom told me about so long ago,
She told me they were good ones,
And they often put on a show,
They danced around on tip- toe,
All dressed in lace and glow,
They always seem to sparkle,
To look their best where ever they’d go.

I remember once she told me,
I was her morning delight,
For I always got up smiling,
As others thought that wasn’t right.
I’d come downstairs singing,
For I too put on a show,
As I’d pass out morning kisses,
before off to school I’d go.

Things haven’t changed much since then,
For I still get up with that same smile,
Ok, maybe I don’t dance around,
I still sing as though I were still that child.
Yes I have aged a bit since then,
When Mom shared these words with me,
But I’m not to old to share that smile,
And still sing happily

You chose a wise photograph to post with this piece, it just fits so perfectly and your words are words of joy. I think I can even see you smiling, which is how I choose to begin each day. A smile, hug, kiss and a chuckle always begins the day on the right foot. Wonderful......

Be safe,
Karen

I am glad that you are "full" of love and sharing. Your words ring that love out like a chorus singing in a cathedral. I enjoy reading your works.

What a beautiful write, I can see Grandma's face still - even in her aged years she was full of love and joy. Her smile did, indeed, light up a room - as yours still does. Love you, mom.

Mothers of our era showed us and taught us values such as the ability to laugh and sing and try and cheer others who are not happy up. These were wonderful traits to develop and usually stuck with us our whole lifes but somtimes we forgot them...thanks for the gentle reminder dear Cuz.

Rose,
You brought back some great childhood memories, especially, my Mom's singing. I always knew when she was happiest, because she sang some pretty silly songs.
Thanks, for the memory. Truly an uplifting poem.
Your smile shines through your words.
Kathy
