A Blankie For Me

Here’s an innocent child, our grandson, his heart broken because he had misplaced his blankie. To him this is his best friend, the comfort zone in his life. My heart was breaking too as I helped him search, soon the blankie was found. I captured the most precious smile through the sparkle and tears of his fulfilled heart. All he needs is his blankie, not too much to ask for. Ever so thankful as he snuggled it close to him yet so willing when asked to share it with me. Tell me what’s more precious then an innocent little child.

A Blankie For Me

He said Please, I need my blankie,
As he looked into my face,
His little eyes were filled with tears,
my heart was in a race.
I’ll help you search, I said so quick,
I panicked and my heart felt sick,
Where could they be not too far away,
He needs his blankie near him everyday.

He reached out
his arms for a hug,
And with my heart he began to tug,
He whispered softly, “I Love You Nan,”
I returned these words to this young man.
I said here’s your blankie, and with a smile,
He stole my heart, this precious child.
He walks away , he’s in his comfort zone,
He snuggles his blankie,  he’s no longer alone.

I’ll keep this picture , long in my mind,
Of an innocent child, so lost in time,
Just a blankie to snuggle close,
The comfort zone he needs the most.
I hope these days he’ll not erase,
Of all the loved shared within these days.
An innocent child, a gentle young man,
Who’s stolen the heart, of this dear Nan.

Oh, this tugged at my heartstrings! I have been involved in the same type of search as it is a serious matter indeed! Although my grandchildren are in their teens now it seems like yesterday that "blankie" played such a major part in their lives.

Love ya!

Cute pic...I had this beat up little Teddy Bear that eventually mom got rid of...Your grandson is a lucky young man, but you had better buy a baseball bat to beat the girls off when he grows up, that blond hair and those blue eyes(?) are going to make him very popular...Peace thru the Write, Ed & Rufuz

He's stolen my heart too. My granddaughter is 5 months old today. She sucks her fingers and has not latched onto a blankie yet. But oh, I think her mother still sleeps with hers. lol. Wonderfully, excellent poem. Liz

Loved the picture.
I guess the only thing that changes as we grow up is the "blanket".
Nicely done. I'm a sucker for anything to do with kids!
My best regards,

so very precious--my children all had blankies--so very sad when they couldn't find them or when they sat in front of the dryer waiting for them to be dry--

What a precious, precious write, and what a precious little guy he is! What a cutie! AWWWW! Very well done, Rose; glad he found his "blankie"! Kids that age need something to hold onto as they naviagate this often-scary world; they need the assurance that they are loved and that they are safe.

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

The innocense of children can break down our heart's resistance like nothing else on this earth. You captured this thought perfectly in your write and though your prewrite was lovely this poem and the lovable little guy in the picture with his blankie made it unnecessary...great write Rose.
