Strange when we are young and look at some things as an embarrassment to us and how we thought we would just die if anyone ever saw this or that. Yet as we get older they become treasures of our past, there are too many times I do wonder what ever happened to?

What Ever Happened To

I was looking for this a while ago,
And come across this, for I didn’t know,
It was still around after all this time,
I often thought there’s only one of it’s kind.

Over the years it entered my mind,
Of what ever really happened to that,
But there it was in the closet still,
That big ugly old fluffy black hat.

Don’t remember to this day,
Where that old hat ever came from,
I know that it was I who hid it away,
Because I though it looked so dumb.

The thought occurs every now and then,
Of those things, once a part of me,
I thought they were oh so hideous,
I hid them so no one would ever see.

It’s funny how things stay in our minds,
Today as I wonder and smile at last,
At all the things once so embarrassing,
Are now precious things of my past.

I so relate to this Rose, I had an old evening gown of my grandmother's, used to dress up in it and just yesterday I thought of it and wondered where it was now.

This is such an up-lifting view of the past. Yep, there are things I'd just as soon forget, but looking back - it really wasn't all that bad. It's in how I see the cup - half full, of course.

Hey sis maybe that was the black fuzzy hat that I got for Christmas many, many year ago while still a teenager and yes it did disappear. I loved that hat. Beautiful reminder.

Love you sis

Fond memories of embarrassing moments, how does that always happen? I guess we grow and detach from the embarrassment. Wonder poem, Rose as always!

I've kept many of those 'precious things,' and I doubt I will ever part with them, no matter what my wife says!

You are so right dear Rose, mementos that once we deemed silly can become treasures that we cherish for the vaguest of reasons. An old cigarette lighter that should have been thrown or given away when I quit smoking now a momento because it was given to me by my brother now deceased at his wedding...some things seem to find their own way of staying with us...maybe that is the same for your hat.

Oh boy can I ever relate to this one. I have so many things that have been stuffed into packing boxes and every time I move to another part of the country I make sure they do not get lossed. Yet I never seem to unpack them. Great write...

Be safe,
Karen
