Deep Within The Chest
I opened the chest all covered in dust,
My eyes they bestowed such a love,
For the photos and the letters I found,
Belonged to my love up above.
I dampened the paper with tears,
As my heart it broke right into,
For that was then and I still hurt now,
Today as I think dear of you.
I remember our walks on the beach,
Our talks under the moon and the stars,
I remember how when you left me alone,
And how my heart it was scarred.
I still see the children quiet often,
Though they live so far away,
They never forgot their dear old dad,
After God chose to take their mother away.
Last Sunday they had the grandchildren,
What beauties, they’ve grown to be,
They resemble you in their beauty, and style
But their habits, they got dear from me.
I’ll lock the old chest for protection,
One day the children will find,
We carried a torch called true love,
They’ll know there’s only a love of one kind.
