I was writing another chapter for my book today and this poem came to mind, so it is based on that and nothing more. Hope you enjoy.
You Were Gone
At the age of seventeen, I fell in love with you, We had to hide our secret, Known to just a chosen few. Soon there would be a child, One you would never know, Because you were sent away, To a place you didn't want to go. Then I got this depressing message, You'll not return back home to me, And sadness filled my heart, You were gone and I was set free. My education became of importance I continued on through life, Raise our child with help of others. To become someone elses wife. I often thought of what we had, The love that was meant to be. Until I got that message saying, You were gone, you'll not return to me.
Life can be cruel but I have learned over the years that God or that infinite power that guides all our lives has a way of compensating and evening out the ups and downs of life. Good capture of a woman's life in this one.
Rose, a heart can be broken quickly leaving one or the other struggling to understand why. You've expressed this well in your writing & kept this readers interest.
