I was wrapping the many gifts that I had purchased and thoughts of my brother filled my heart and eyes. To think of the special Christmas he will be celebrating with his heavenly father and the many family members that have gone before him.

I Watched As You Came

I watched as you came towards me,
In the darkend room I stare,
You walk at your own speed,
But I know you that you aren't here.
I reach out my hand to touch you,
But you seem to fade away,
I start to cry as I wonder,
Why you didn't want to stay.

Was there something you had hidden,
Something you just forgot to say,
Did you think you'd make it easier,
If you quietly slipped away.
Your birthday it is coming,
We have nothing to celebrate,
I bet you're having a party,
With those behind Heaven's gate.

This will be a Christmas,
Like none you've had before,
With those who've gone before you,
All those you do adore.
But we'll have you in our heart Bernie,
And we'll wish that you were here,
Because we truly miss you brother,
And will year after year.

Then I opened up my eyes,
Still feeling you were here with me,
I know this was just a dream,
I'm just not willing to set you free.
You are in my every thought,
I sign cards and wrap gifts for the family,
Your's just seem to sit aside with tears,
Cause you're not here with me.

Rose, this just brought big tears to my eyes, if people were spying & filming me here at my computer, they would think she must be the sadest person on earth because she cries all the time...oh, well, reading my Ad poets mean the world to me and I enjoy every poem I read. This poem reminder me so much of my brother who went away in 2001 to be with the Lord. It's like it can't be real. I'd say this is one great write.

Sad and very touching Rose. I can feel your love and sorrow in this. We must remember the eternal peace that is welcoming our loved ones as they move on to God's better place and that all the sorrow we feel is for our own loss. Of the many losses that I've experienced in my years I've come to envy all of them that have gone before us. They have truly been blessed. Still the sadness of our losses lingers though. May God's grace and love comfort you always Rose.

We will be united with them in heaven for all eternity not just the few years we had them on earth.

The longing to recapture the loss of someone close to us after they have passed on is understandable as we share so many intimate moments of our brother and sisters lives it is hard to believe we cannot continue to share. Only time and the knowledge that what we are given physically on this earth is only on loan while the memories we build from the physical are ours to treasure always. I know you miss Bernie as I still continue to miss my brothers Bill and Jimmy...but hey they will be together for Christmas I am sure.

hugs

(((Rose))),

I'm so sorry for your loss. But you've been given an extra gift: you still feel his presence, you still remember him. That is a lovely thing, indeed. Thank you for touching my heart with this poem.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
