It's that time of year when everyone loves the smell as they enter my house, being from Newfoundland leaves the house smelling of Spices and fresh breads. Trying to save some for Christmas is a major problem.

Poem Artwork

Kitchen duty

Here we are in the kitchen,
Baking up some delicious treats.
Can smell the ginger and cinnamon,
Makes us hungry enough to eat.

Flour covers the counters,
The chocolate is a heavenly sight,
Trying to get some saved for Christmas,
Is really a hell of a fight.

The Cherry loaves won’t make it,
To the pantry to be hid,
Look out for the Date squares,
Can’t keep them from each kid.

The shortbread and the snowballs,
The sweetbreads and the frosted cake,
They are there for the children,
As each one has their take.

Nothing left for Santa Claus,
Just a Gingerbread Sleigh,
Lets’ hope he will accept it,
As he goes his Merry Way

Who can't smell it? I'm sure Santa won't mind. He's not so thin, you know.

You made me have tears of remembrance when I baked like that. No more, but I sure did enjoy it when I did! Your wonderful poem has me smelling the treats in the oven, thank you Rose!;-)

... don't even bother with the cooking... I'll just eat the mixture raw, straight from the bowl... Salmonella (from the raw eggs) ain't got me yet...!! :)) Yours must be a kitchen to behold, Rose. It would be pure pleasure to be "on duty" around it... tasting duty, that is! TY Kate xx
