I Couldn't Close My Eyes

I have often wondered over the years when I see someone on a street corner who looks like they need food or clothing, who they are and where they came from. I wonder could it be God himself testing out our love for each other.

 I Couldn’t Close My Eyes

I couldn’t close my eyes,
At those who stood at my door,
I knew that they were hungry,
So cold and oh so poor.

I couldn’t turn my back on them,
I just couldn’t turn away,
For I knew that deep within my heart,
The Lord sent them today.

He knew that I had food to share,
And clothes for them to wear,
He knew I couldn’t turn my back,
He knew how much I’d care.

He knew that it was cold outside,
That I had warmth inside,
That’s why the Lord sent them to me,
He was their greatest guide.

I couldn’t close my eyes,
For what I saw that day,
I shared my food and love with them,
Before I sent them on their way.

No one really knows,
Who in that body lives,
It could be God Himself,
So from your heart please give.

He could be there just testing you,
To see what love you have,
So give what you can to those,
Who are less fortunate and sad.

I can never imagine what it would be like to be homeless and not have the warmth around me. It does make me wonder also years ago when I would see some homeless how they got that way. Lady J

At this time of year with the frigid temps and snow it is more important than ever to as you have shown in this write...reach out and touch the ones who need are help and have so little. A dollar to the young teen beggin on a corner, another to the old man shivering by the soup line, one to the food bank, one to the Salvation Army Kettle...if we all gave as much as we spend on one gift for a loved one at Christmas imagine how much happier things for the less fortunate would be. Hugs for your big heart dear cuz...

Very touching and profound. This verse taken from the Holy Bible happened here in every line. "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, you do unto Me." Nothing can compare with the satisfaction and fulfillment in giving unselfishly. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!

Be well,
Sheri

Sometimes paths cross for a purpose and only God initially knows what that purpose is.... A most beautiful write. Robert and I met a young woman with two pre-school age children at her side about a year or so ago. When I looked at her standing on the corner waiting for light to change I was compelled to get out of the car. As I approached her I just knew it was God making our paths cross. She was me many years ago. The way strangers were there to once help me, we helped her. All thanks to God crossing our paths......

Be safe,
Karen

Most uplifting poem on taking care of God's people who contain the Holy Spirit within them. You are truly feeding God in disguise.

Sad write, your poem gives people many things to think about. Maybe it is a test of some kind, but it sure is not very happy test. It is an honorable thing that you do for others.
