Restless Night

I sit here with my pen in hand,
Not knowing what to write,
I've laid here for several hours,
Restless all through the night.

My mind it has been wandering,
Of all the things I have to do,
My body just won't let it be,
I should be laying next to you.

I've got this list, it's in my mind,
It's there both night and day,
I try to clear it before rest,
But things won't go away.

I haven't  as many hours,
In the days that lay ahead,
I think of only writing,
Words share my space in bed.

Another restless night in bed,
I lay in the silence of the night,
Thinking of all that can be done,
When sleep is what I fight.
