As each year goes by I realize that I am getting older and that one day I will be wondering what to do with all my time when there isn't really anything to do.

Poem Artwork

In A World Of My Own

I'm in a world of my own,
That no one really shares,
Lonely thoughts of life ahead,
That says no one will care.

Lonely are the years we'll see,
When all are gone away,
We'll sit in a rocker by a widow,
as though we're on display.

Every once in a while,
We'll chuckle at a thought,
And smile as someone greets us,
While in our chair aloan we rock.

Some days will be dark and grey,
Others will seem so bright,
Nothing will seem as they once were,
never again will things seem right.

No one to hold us in their arms,
Or wipe the tears we will cry,
No one to comfort us from fear,
No one will bother to try.

All alone in our own little world,
To make a life so we may live on,
The days filled with dark and gloomy,
You know deep inside this is wrong.

The life that we once knew and loved,
has somehow been taken away,
Leaving us to live a life of gloom,
Leading our lives astray.

Rose, you just call my phone number and you will find a friend to talk to a wile away a few hours with. And then when my time is done I too will take leave and pass on. I don't plan on wallowing away in a nursing home. Excellent write. Liz

I too often travel that path within my mind Rose
don't want to come to any conclusions nor do I wish to impose myself on my children to take care of me, to feed me by hand, to wipe me when accidents occur, i dont want them to hate as a burden
just hope they don't forget me in the nursing home.....
come to think of it, I pray it don't get to that point

Rose my darlin sis I can't see any of our family growing old and bored, or alone. We love people too much and we are always so busy learning and filling our minds with new things. No darlin we will never be alone. I love the words written in your poem.
And I want to wish Phyllis Jean Green an early HAPPY BIRTHDAY and wish you the best for the New Year...Health,Wealth and Happiness to all.

Love you sis

Oh, Rose. Please stay on the Den, 'cause we love you. Won't let you
be alone!
I will be 75 on the 19th, and i know where you are coming from. Can't tell you how many friends and relatives have passed' many others are beyond help in the physical, and too often the mental, sense. Plus I have a tendency to hole up, being as passionate as I am about writing. But we have to keep reaching out.
To people of all ages and with all kinds of backgrounds and interests. . .right? Can't get out, we can take advantage of e-mail and the Internet.
Perhaps the poem is not strictly autobiographical--? I have written many fictional poems in the first person. Lends immediacy, among other pluses.
Like to know more! To know you better!!
Any chance?

Love,

'Pea'

Very sad - this happens more frequently than not. However, even though I believe that this generation is a "throw out" generation - with the proper teachings they will take care of the aged. In my culture, we from a young age come to know that family is so very important and that we should always be there to take care of and to respect our elders. My papa has passed, but my mama is still alive and although she refuses to live with any of us, I send her money every month and talk to her daily. She knows that if she should need me - I am only a few hours away by plane and would drop it all to be there for her. If only all children and the younger generation today did not feel that way. Thank you for sharing this write.

So incredibly sad that many elders must live this way. A thought provoking write Rose.

Sad write, Rose; I often feel this way. I'm forty eight and a half, and have really done nothing in my life. Maybe this will be the year; maybe something will happen with my writing! I hope so! Very well penned!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

That was a mean rocking chair, like the one that bouncing geezer have on his porch, and, as he drinks his Coors beer...he can care less how old he gets.
But the poem tells us much more, of cries never cried, of smiles never given, of fears crawling out of the age corners, of gloom leading our lives astry...and then again, telling us to age graciously.

Well written sad reality in this write Rose. I've witnessed this happen much too often to my liking. Kind of scary too as we approach this time ourselves. Very thoughtfully penned my friend.

I love the picture you give of chuckling at a thought. You have put so many thoughts on paper to show us that you have such a creative mind. Besides, I can't believe there won't be many who will "greet" you while you rock alone. (btw - aren't those typos hard to see?)

A passionate write about fears of tomorrow and aging but Rose in your case I know you will never be alone or deserted, too many people love and adore you. You have a unique fan club of friends and family that I took a membership in and I am glad I did. Well written write dear Cuz...

A sad poem, but many do live like that. However it isn't necessary. We can determine to stay active as long as we can and writing poetry being on the internet is one way for sure, even for those who are ill or unable to stand or do much. Being idle and self-pity is a chice we don't have to make. This got to me, because I nursed people like this and know how it happens Superb poem Rose!

I share these feelings. Yet, I know that both of us will have the beauty and love of friends to comfort us as we get older. Interesting perspective on getting older. I pray that each older person will always have the light of love to make our aging more beautiful.

God bless you. Kathy

This happens much too frequently and is certainly something to think about but not worry but plan for it.
