She is a pure sign of beauty, young and healthy, tending to her children through sickness and health, loving themunconditional. One day she will be as helpless as they are today. Why do they turn away and pretend the problem ofOld age won’t affect them. Sorry but we can’t escape it, yes you too will have your turn and pray someone will be there.

Her Life Of Yesterday

Her wrinkled hands are swollen,
From the years of love and care,
Her eyes are darkly circled
From too many years of shedding tears.
Her body is now frail and weakened,
From all the sleepless nights she’s had,
Her heart once too often broken,
in her world now bleak and sad.

The times once filled with laughter,
Are now just lonely quiet days,
The visions she dreamed of fulfilling,
Are now just a vacant, starry gaze.
The kids that used to came to visit,
Have all left and moved away,
As she sits alone, close by the window,
Crying for her time of yesterdays.

She stares at the walls surrounding her,
A few pictures from her life,
That special day that she was wed,
And became a happy, loving wife,
All too soon he had to leave her too,
For God chose to call him home.
Now that her loving children moved away
She feels that life has left her so alone.

There was a time not long ago,
She rocked each in her arms,
She kept them fed and happy,
Sharing with them all her charms.
A symbol of a true devoted Mother,
Making sure for them she’d always care.
She did without herself for years,
Hid from them each painful tear.

Oh they don’t know she heard them talking,
They thought she couldn’t understand,
But she’d be there Mom forever,
There love now was in demand.
They think she is just a stranger,
That she’s forgotten them today,
But a Mother’s love lasts forever,
Through each and everyday.

oh so sad isn't it. Life goes by so very fast we must never turn our backs on those who raised us, because we need to take care of them also. Hugs Staci

This is a most difficult review for me to pen because I see so much of this is my Mom's life. She is still fully capable to caring for herself, her older sister and one of my sisters, but she quit living a few years ago. I needed this reminder that "... a Mother's love lasts forever, through each and every day." I will share this one with my Mom and ask for her forgiveness in not being the daughter that SHE deserves. Thank you my friend.

God bless you. Kathy

What a beautiful write my friend...you captivated me from the beginning to the end...sad how quickly life does pass by, it seems that only a few years ago I was helping give my mother's fortieth birthday party. I really thought that she was old then, of course I was thirteen! This year if good Lord's will she will be celebrating her seventieth birthday...thirty years....seems no more than ten! It is true...life is as a vapor on water...a touching write one of my favorites, a keeper my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Very well done! Makes me feel a bit sad too. Coming from a military family and military myself, our family is all too broken as a whole. Very moving poem.

Stay well and keep writing.

Rose, this is full of truth and a great tribute to us seniors. Yes, we raise our children and in a lot of cases some of our grandchildren too but they all grow up and have families and a life of their own. Sad, but oh so true.

Profound and powerful. I know how this feels. Alone for whatever reason is still loneliness and hurts. Liz

...Rose...this is not only a reminder...but a tribute to the life of elderly hearts...still beating. Forgotten by those living in a world caught up in denial and time consuming needlessness. More than one of the "Seven Deadly Sins"...Jerry Bolton has penned on AD...becomes these children of newfound multitasking self priorities.
Thank You...
John

This is so very sad and what I see around unfortunately very true. In my culture, we take care of the elderly as they took care of us. Mother is living with us and I wouldn't want it any other way. She found life so difficult after Papa passed, we love her very much and it is great for our youngest to also reap the rewards of having her generation to teach him as well. Very well done, Rose.

I was raised to respect older folks
and I do.
I don't understand the greed of useless off
spring who just seeem to throw their parents away.
Where is the love anymore?
Thanks for sharing Rose

Very sad write here Rose, and so much truth to it too. Too much truth. My heart aches for all the mothers (and fathers too) who gave all of their love so willingly to their children and have now been set aside like an old piece of worn out furniture. Priorities today are really messed up. Well said my friend. God bless.

Tears fall, this deeply affected me Rose and yes unless we die young we will face old age.

A reminder that needs to be shouted from the rooftops. One day they'll be where our elderly are at now, then who will be there for THEM?? Nobody respects our elders anymore, and that is a sad, tragic thing! Powerful write, Rose; brava!

Rose--I am so thankful that I still live in a culture where nursing homes are still for just that; nursing. Although I know the outside is creeping in on us, I have trouble wrapping my mind around this plight. I do know it happens, just thankfully not in my world.

Thank you for such a strong write of compassion and caring.

The pligh of many senior citizens are more and more ignored by the same society that not long ago had a motto that said "take care of your elders, because without them you woulnd't be here" but I think that progress is a illness and the first thing to go is remembering where they came from.
Sorry Mom, too busy to say hello in Christmas!!!!!!!

Dear Cuz, this beautiful and sensitive write describes all too well what is the plight of far too many of our seniors. I do believe that there are times when a nursing home is in the best interest of our elders but that being said it is not an escape route to get rid of them. If anything people should spend even more time with their loved ones who are in these facilities and look so forward to seeing a familiar face and a warm touch. My own wife spends three nights and at least a few hours every Saturday and Sunday with her mother and though it does take away the time we would share...I love the fact that she can care for someone so much.

Such a powerfully penned write, Rose: children of today have no gratitude, no respect for the years of nuturing given by their parents. In other cultures, the elderly are venerated...not so, here. Many are dumped into nursing homes, to be forgotten: a tragedy. Thank you for writing this, because one day, we will be there...and God help us!! Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
