I Look At You My Little One
When I saw you standing there alone,
I felt as though your world had caved in,
The tears in your eyes alone,
Filled my heart with sadness.
There was nothing I could say or do,
For you were all grown, an adult now.

 Needing your own space to roam,
Needing to make your own decisions in life,
Wanting to find Mr. Right,
Settle down with a family of your own,
Making him the perfect wife.

How I still felt the need,
The need to protect you from life,
From the hurt and pain you would feel,
A broken heart from a lost love,
A pain my dear little one,
A pain that is more than real.

 But no you had to do this on your own,
and I had to step back,
I had to let you trip over love,
And pray that you would pick yourself up,
Mend your broken heart,
And move on to a brighter start.

 Today and maybe even tomorrow,
You are just my child, but in time,
yes in time I will let you go,
I will back away and let you move forward,
Not too far for I will always feel your pain,
I will share your happiness and I little one,
Will help mend your broken heart.
