There is still so much anger and hurt going on at the schools where kids have to spend so many years of their lives. How many quit because they can't handle it missing out on their education which they are entiltled to because of those who think they are so much better. Name calling do hurt more then sticks and stones, bruises will heal but a heart gets maked forever. Everyone has to do their part by talking to their children and Grandchildren to put a stop to it
Sorry I tried to download my pic but it won't let me.

Sticks & Stones Hurt & So Do Names

Sticks and stones may break our bones
But names will never hurt me,
Not so true as we were taught as kids.
Names do indeed hurt us deeply,
Often young ones have to live with it,
It becomes a permanent fixture in life,
Carried through to adult hood,
When they become a husband or a wife.

It isn’t always a sweet pleasure,
For the chosen names we get,
The hurt we carry through the years,
We often do regret.
When your child thinks of one,
That doesn’t sound so nice,
Sit them down and chat with them,
Make them think it over twice.

Would they like to be called the same,
Would it cause them to cry,
Then maybe they could think it over,
Questioning their reason why.
Maybe they could check their heart,
See what comes from there,
Before they call another name,
That will cause another tear.

Rose,
words can tear us down in seconds & remain severed, over any broken bone which mends in a matter of 6 weeks or so.
Many children are lost in a vicious cycle within their own home, it's truely abusive to the soul.
Great Write

You are SO right, Rose. Like you say, the child should be given love and respect at home, so that no matter what others say or do, they will know what and who counts. Would be so great if there were NO bullies and name callers, but they've existed for near 70 years that I've known about.

A great poem filled with much wisdom . You are right , emotional scars are left by picking , bullying and name calling. Some children could really benefit from reading your poem!......M

Rose, there is so much truth in what you have written here, and the message you deliver is very wise.

There is an incredible amount of truth in what you write. Hate-filled nicknames, taunting and ridicule are forever on our heart ... nasty, nasty stuff. Well written.

God bless you. Kathy

Oh so true and it is actually only since I've been writing over the past four years that I have uncovered the source of much of my adult lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem... rooted in your astute thinking here, Rose. For example, it makes you feel so stupid when you get to about 48 and it suddenly clicks that your childhood best friend nick-named you after their tatty old comfort blanket that they took out all their frustrations on! Yes, words are harmers or healers for certain sure. Bless you, Kate xx

A wonderful message here, Rose. I think children that are feeling hurt themselves tend to pick on others to make themselves not feel so "small".

A few bullyings came to many tragedies, when the young (and their elders) going to understand that "it wouldn't happen to me, or here, or to us?" and those doing the bullying STOP RIGH NOW or you will be sentenced as "responsible after the fact on murder one" and they going to throuw the key to your cell away.

Words can be far worse than fists: the internal scars linger and fester ... I know. Powerfully penned sadness, Rose, well done -

Yes I agree with this write and it should be passed on to all kids, as well as parents guardians and teachers. The pain caused by bullies is not always limited to physical abuse. Great one Cuz.

Scars remain for life in the hearts of children who are made fun of and left out of everything in school. These scars stay with the children and cause them deep self-confidence problems that never can be healed. This is a powerful message that needs to be read. A fantastic writing.

Very true Rose and I hope more parents will take a hands on approach to finding out what their children are being exposed to. I fought my battles when my children were young and now see what my grandchildren are being exposed to. Keep getting that message out to talk with your children, perhaps visit the schools and speak with some of the teachers too, getting a more rounded visual of what your children are being asked to tolerate....

Be always safe,
Karen

I remember that saying when I was in grade school. However names do hurt alot and we carry that around. And it still goes on today. Somehow it needs to stop. A true write for sure.

Names DO hurt. I know. Kids called me brain damaged, retarded, stupid, worthless--I've heard it all. Years later, I still live with the pain. Too much of this going on; it needs to be eradicated so kids in future generations don't have to worry about kids hurting or taunting them!!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
