Nothing Seems To Be The Same

Children don't seem to realize that as they get older so do we the parents and that nothing ever stays the same. The ones we love come and go through sickness and dieases causing death and before we know it they are making plans for a happy fulfilled life as we are left alone with just memories to fill our minds. They often think we don't notice but we do, we just cry lost, lonely tears in silence to ourselves as they quickly forget their mother or father who sits alone surrounded with the memories of what once was. If only they would realize that this will be them one day.

Nothing Seems To Be The Same

A picture sits upon the shelf,
A shadow in the hall.
A box filled with memories,
Our little boy's basketball.

A crib rest in the corner,
A doll lay on the floor.
Nothing seems to be the same,
Since you left through the front door.

The children have grown through time,
They've missed you year after year.
I've kept the memories of you alive,
So they would always have you near.

We don't eat at the table,
There's no sunshine in our home.
My days are all dark and gray,
Since you've left me here all alone.

The children are now adults,
They've moved away my dear.
As I stare at our surroundings,
I cry another lost lonely tear.

Yes Dear Rose, life is full of seasons and stages. Those precious memories should bring joy and when change comes embraced for with new hobbies and new starts. I myself helped my son pack and move a couple of weeks ago and it was not easy. Well Done! Deborah

Your poem is part of the reality of life. You have written it so well! Things do change as time goes along and we have no control over it. Growing old is hard . Some are lucky to have loved ones that care ,some have no one. I don't think many realize what its like till they live it themselves....GREAT WRITE....M

This is so true of many Rose, and your compassion covers it the way it is. We can only pray and hope their families will realize their worth! ET

Sad but all too real write, all too often Fathers in past could not always be with their children due to work and as a result missed so many important landmarks then sadly all too often they were the first to go and their children had so few memories of them as compared to their mothers. Also sadly in today's world of both parents having to work to keep up they are both losing a lot of precious memories as well.

How soon they forget, that what we feel now is the same as they'll feel in the future. The best we can do is hold on to memories and each other. I Love You.

I see my family all together mostly at holidays. Sometimes they come to family picnics or birthday celebrations, etc. It is so nice when I see all 4 girls and their families all together. It makes me feel so good. Meanwhile I pray for them each day and say God, they each must go their own ways, keep them safe and happy.

So sad and well penned Rose. I never forgot my parents, I cared about and for them to the end. Not so with my children, I can relate to this poem.
