I read Randall's story this morning and I began thinking back to the yesterdays of my life. Those were the days to remember. We were full of life and energy and yes we enjoyed every moment.

Remember Yesterdays

Remember yesterday when you got excited,
Yes when you saw that big bowl of jello.
It was such a cold frosty day.

Remember how we crowded in the family room,
Guitar, mouth organ & squee box entertained us,
That’s what a family room was for.

We knew Saturday was chore day,
Us girls helped clean floors, wash clothes & cook,
The boys chopped wood and cut the grass with shares.

Sunday was a needed day for rest,
Off to church, dinner with the family,
Visits from many Uncles/Aunts & cousins.

Games, we played plenty of those,
Hopscotch, I spy,  Simon Says & Marbles,
We loved to entertain even as children.

We played so hard, it tired us out,
We looked forward to our beds at night.
We well remember our yesterdays.

I remember if it was a good pay week,
We got a quarter, we were rich back then,
An ice cream cone, pop and a bag of chips.

We got plenty exercise alright,
We walked to visit our friends,
We had hoola hoops & skipping ropes.

Not too many had weight problems,
Unless it was an illness, fast food was,
A peanut butter & jam sandwich on the run.

Yes we remember yesterdays too well,
We were young and healthy,
Full of energy & never bored with life.

Hello Rosie,

Simply nostalgic but beautiful, this poem makes us realize time goes by so quickly and everyday becomes "yesterday".

A tribute to the simpler past. Beautifully written and takes you back to a quiet time when you were a wide eyed child. Does anyone remember the Good Humor man? my favorite.

The memories are truly important. A part of us and who we are.
I love the marbles. Got one yesterday.
Thanks for the memories.

Rose,

Unusual for you, the non-rhyming style of poetry - but Oh, so beautiful. Well done, my new favorite of yours!

Yes Dear Cuz, I too remember as if it were yesterday and as our family circles grow smaller I think we tend to find those memories even more soothing knowing that they were the "best if times and ther worst of times" as a great writer once wrote. Our two families lived far apart but in so many ways were also close together, loved this write....beautiful job Rose.

Those good ole' days always bring back wonderful memories; and we tend to have the bad ones fade away....but I'm learning that it's just as important to enjoy today...they seem to fly so fast now... Good writing Rose, thank you... lindalaw
