A Lifelong Friend

 She sits by the tree, sad and alone,
As her best friend forgets, she wanders home,
She don’t feel the hurt that’s hidden by tears,
Or feel what her little dolly knows as fear.

I hear a dog in the distance of the night,
I know he will find me and on me he’ll bite.
Please won’t someone help me today,
Just hold me in your arms hidden safely away.

Someone is coming, I hear them as they walk,
I think there are two as I can hear them both alk.
It’s my friend and her mommy, they’re looking for me,
I hope she remembers I’m here by this big old tree.

She sees me and she is running with open arms,
She crys tears, now I’m back where I belong.
She holds me and tells me, I’ll never again be alone,
As she holds me tightly and takes me safely home.

She wipes my little face as I kiss her fallen tears,
I now know she too felt all my fears,
For she thought I was gone never to be found,
But I stayed right there on this cold hard ground.

A little girl and her precious dolly,
A lifelong friend who will care.
A trusting relationship to hold on to,
One to hold on to year after year.
