I guess John Michael inspired this poem. John wrote on Gossip today and yes gossip is a terrible thing and often hurts another, but the sad truth is, we all do it and often without realizing it. One second we are asked have you seen???? and before we know it the conversation changes.

It`s Everywhere You go ``GOSSIP``
February 3, 2009
Written by: Rose Marie Rideout

You hear it in the grocery store,
And at the bus stop too,
As you enter the church to worship,
There’s really nothing you can do.
You hear it at the office,
When at the bank to pay your bills,
When you stop to say hello to a friend,
At the Drugstore to get your pills.

GOSSIP

Did you see her hair cut,
See the weight that she’s put on,
I think they’re a new family,
I don't think it's here that they belong.
Listen to their child cry,
That old guy is nodding his head,
I think he’s fallen asleep,
He should have stayed at home in bed.
Did you see the cast on his arm,
The cut and bruise above her eye,
I think there’s something going on,
It's enough to make you cry.
I heard that Sammy wasn't doing well,
He's feeling rather ill,
Yes I overheard it was because,
He couldn't afford to take his pills.
Do you think we should offer help,
Maybe it's best to stay away,
Don't want them to think for a second,
Their business have come our way.

Guilt

Do you think they heard us,
They are looking our way,
Well I've never in my life,
I know I had nothing to say.
They best not get upset with me,
It was Tim who passed it on,
I said they didn't belong here,
They best go back where they belong.

Acceptance

This is God's world,
For His children good or bad,
We just have to be more accepting,
Without gossip, which make others sad.
We have to try to consider others,
When we chat with those close by,
Often the things we have to say,
Can make others around us cry

All I can say sissy-in-law. you hit the nail on the head, I love the your words ,there are so many people in our family that are very phony they nice to your face but look out behind your back..I always hated gossip, when someone starts I change the subject, that is the only way I can handle.
Love you sissy-in-law keep up the great work,
Linda

All I can say sis is I HATE GOSSIP AND BACK STABBING. Especially it others are using it against my FAMILY or close friends. There is nothing more sickening than when they especially attack one particular person who is loved so much. A person who stays away ONLY because of the dislike and insults he/she has to endure. But tries to tolerate because of the love he/she feels towards another sibling. Great write sis.

Love you sis as I do my other siblings,
Selena
Love you sis.

I think the person who needs to out cast in a negative light another person is gravely short changed in their own self and seeking self distructive attentions
I don't participate in spreading gossip, but I do listen & find positive reasons for a situation, it's really important to never bare witness with our mouths what our eyes do not witness first hand
Constuctive Bridges Can Be Crossed
Burning Bridges Cannot as your poem clearly presses the importance of emotions we all feel.
Much Love To You Rose

Gossip is an ugly business Rose. People can be so hurtful sometimes and sometimes, without even meaning to be so. This is very well written and is a wonderful reminder of how important our words and behavior truly are. Nicely done and I hope you are feeling better. Sending hugs, Elizabeth :)

Gosh, Rose, I wish people would live according to your last stanza. I love my work but I hate to arrive at work because the person I relieve uses my arrival to launch into a tirade of hateful gossip and "ain't it awful" -- It sometimes is so bad that I have shut them down rudely with "Cheer up ... your life won't get better by making them look bad!" BTW, this does work :-)

Thank you Rosie!
Yes, you are right - YOU CANNOT stop GOSSIP. One thing is acceptable is if someone wants to talk behind my back they should have the guts to tell me the same thing staight to my face. The other day a Christian brother told me that he was angry with me. We talked about it and solved our differences in minutes. Now we are meeting for lunch and going to talk more WITH eachother.

Truth - Honesty - Open-hearted sincerity - really caring for one another! It does not mean you don't have differences or get angry!
That's all a part of life - Christian or not!

WHAT A CONCEPT!!!!

Amen - I rest my case.

PS: Thanks again!

You must of been reading my thoughts, for as I read this today, earlier I have been rallying a cause against Gossip mongers, who knowingly, and callously set out to destroy ppls lives. Gossip/Slander is so wicked, so indidious, it starts wars, then the sword is implored. Nations are brought to their knee's over Rumours.
PPL commit suicide feeling as though they are transparent, and have lost face because of the malignant tongue...Others become reclusive...None of the responses generated are positive, in fact this is the most toxic of all biological weaponry!
The Bible speaks of this practice, and thus the condemnation of it is harsh and just!
Thank you Dear Rose, I do so value this write, especially at a time like this.
Much love to you
Ch'erie
XX PS, it is cooling off now aaaaaah !

Rose,

Much food for thought in these rhyming lines ... well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I think gossipers do it because they've nothing better to do.

Yes sadly it is a human flaw that most of us have dear cuz along with our prejudics and bigotries. All we can do is try and know we are gossiping and stop it when we realize it.

I have neighbors who do nothing but, and it drives me butt crazy!! I choose not to get involved; better to leave well enough alone! You know what I mean?? Sad some people don't have anything better to do!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

This seems to be an issue lately, as Bonnie wrote about Gossip, Michael wrote and now you've written... so it must be something that is abreast and I've just not heard...hehe...so good for me! Sometimes it's better to be "out of the loop"....but like everyone here knows, it's just sad to be hurtful to others since we certainly know how that is when it hits our own lives...:-( Good writing Rose...actually, very good...direct and really good in it's simplicity yet boldness! I like it. hugs, lindalaw

The thing is sometimes you even involve yourself in gossiping without even realizing it. But for every rumour there is always a person who begins the it. That is why it is always better be true to your words, even when faced with such gossip-mongers. Some people love to start a rumor to cause shit and have everyone all worked up. We can't avoid these people, they are everywhere.

However, when you speak the truth you don't have a worry; or you can just simply walk away from the one who wants to start a gossip.

I think the latter is a better solution.

I work in a place where privacy is of the highest degree. We assist our clients, but there's the Privacy Act and we can't and WILL NOT gossip our clients. My level of security is of "Secret" level.

If I were to gossip about our clients I could come up with a whole book, but I'd rather not, because in all humanity and morality, we have to allow ourselves to be trusted.

Rose, you have surely summed this all up and taken it full circle in thought as gossip can never have a good outcome. The more gossip there is, the more people are hurt and sometimes scarred....

Be always safe,
Karen
