Our yesterdays will long be forgotten with the next generation, as our children won't tell the stories to their kids that we shared with them.

Ah I Remember it Well
March 29, 2010
By Rose Marie Rideout

Those were the days,
When we were so young,
Unlike the kids of today,
We knew how to have fun.

We ran through the fields,
And rolled down the hills,
We played in the rain daily,
But we never took ill.

We knew all our friends,
We played Marbles and hopscotch,
Every minute we had to spare.
Play unfair, we always got caught.

Ah I remember it well,
Playing games like Show & Tell.
We never had a telephone,
We just knew when Ma said to be home.

No Microwave to heat our lunch,
We ate at the table with the bunch.
Ah I remember it well.
If we did wrong friends wouldn’t tell.

We all had a sled for the winter time,
A yard with swings and a see saw,
We had the world in our hands,
Dad was at work, at home was Ma.

Those were the days we had,
To think of it now makes us sad.
We thought those times were rough,
Today I find life is more tough.

Ah I remember it well,
We have so many stories to tell,
The cost of living, the pay then made,
Times have changed, our life will soon fade.

We may fade away but....
God's love knows no bounds!
Can you imagine that?

Yes, Rose, a lovely and worthwhile trip back, but there's more to your poem than nostalgia; I know it's common to say things were better then, more natural and honest, but it is true...look at the number of times in a day you see a young kid with eyes so glued to the little phone in his hand he bumps into you on the street...he isn't living, he's just reacting to a gadget..does he see and feel the world of everyday? Hardly. This is fine, very fine thinking and writing.

Sis I love this write, it is a great reminder of the fun we use to have with our great friends. Remember the old school by Barb's and Judy's place and how we would hang out there. Yes, those were the days.

Love you sis,
Selena

I do remember all of this and so much more dear Cuz, and though we had an ocean in between your back yard and mine I swear we called out to each other in a fun game of Red Rover, Red Rover let Rosie come over.
