The Only Place to be July 15,2012
By Rose Marie Rideout
Chairs all in a circle,
Soft voices from folks all around.
Friends sharing smiles,
Friendly conversation.
The barbeque is hot,
Food is on the go for all.
Not just folks or neighbours,
More family then friends.
Always there for each other.
Nothing more to see, for this,
This is the only place to be.
This is more then home,
This is love, this is caring.
Knowing everyone on your street,
With a kind word when you meet.
Knowing each other by name,
A true loving game.
Nothing more to want or see,
This is the only place to be.
There's no place like home–and family. Except for cousins who I never see, and my helpers that I see weekly, I'm 1000 miles from my nearest family member. The fact that travel is difficult for me means that I can no longer drop in on my family after a long drive on interstates going home. Still, I remember the times I did and the good times we had, including fireworks on the lake. For now I take each holiday for what it is, a time to reflect on those days past, and incorporate them into my writing like you just did.
Lovely and loving words, my far northern friend. Don't know if I told you, but Bonnie and I were married on 6/27 and had just that: Fifty-five wonderful family and friends about us as we celebrated our wedding.

JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
