- The possibility of losing the fight against ignorance -

Poem Artwork

How wide would you spread
your fragile wings
to reach for the sky
encompassed between the lines
of a book, rediscovered?

You need the ethereal pages,
(don't you?), eager to feed your mind
that's been starving for a lifetime
- more, in fact, but the skeptics will never
allow you to claim this -.

And here you are now,
battling against the breath of darkness
that so wants to blow out your flame.

You struggle.
Not just with legs, heart and brains,
but with an urge
that's like the will to build a hut,
despite hurricanes of hatred.

You scuffle.
Knowledge is not just
a fever, a foolish hope
of saving humanity
(and all life on earth)
made of simple atoms of carbon.

Burning to escape
the hostile winds of ignorance
and subtly induced self-hatred,
you'd set fire
to a world at loss.

Committing a crime (so human)
that also destroys your wings,
forever chaining you
to a barren land
- and mind -.

Your tears mean
that freedom of thought,
independence from dogma
and conventional behavior,
may simply not be meant
for this time on Earth.

Thought provoking, but well done.

Maybe I'm reading way too much into this, Axilea, but it scares me. It haunts me so much that I don't know exactly what to say. Here we readers are -- seeking wisdom, dreaming tissue realities -- burning them up, and finding a barren land. Perhaps it's barren because we have not cultivated the hard-firm ground on which we were born -- or maybe it's the chain that is tissue -- the wings that are tissue. Or maybe, one day, when Earth tips up-side-down and shakes, we'll find we aren't falling--that the air has been our home all along, and we've just kind of settled to the bottom, our spirits knowing, and waiting for the tip. --Shaken

Truth battles everyday within the confines of the mind...and yet it's exposure can place one within the line of fire...not many ...and many...find the path to be destined and yet there is always the clouds of darkness and fear that can weigh an insignificant barrier that falls when Truth is bared...

a very nice work...
