- If it is deadly, it isn't love. -
(in case you had a doubt...)

Deadly
is not the taste of love,
not the meaning of soft-spoken words -
Not.

Pyramids
of love built far and against city traffic
or noisy tv programs,
can fall, break abruptly
when the soil is saturated
under a desert light, vealed.

         In sand,
an arid childhood's drought
killed the seed of a man
planted in the middle of thorns,
asphixiated as he reached out for air:
asthmatic, pathetic, his unmanly hand
reached out for humanity,
was buried by the dry wind
         instead.

         In dust,
                   deserted
by the one he loved the most -
bitten by the scorpion of bitter fantasy
that leaves unsatisfied -
gravel and grains
in his mouth.

Petrified heart -
friable rock that burns,
unquenched the thirst within -
can never love,
forever at loss,
holds on to mirage
of wealth and security...

Owning
showing
while his weak core
simply crumbles -
a time bomb in the castle
built on sand - so unmade.

His deadly body and soul,
- barren -
can bear no fruit --
he can give no love.

Very intense. Also realistic - how this 'death' began to develop at an early age. We get so many of our cues for how to love and show love from adults when we are young. When they hurt you, it has long-term effects. Extremely creative and a pleasure to read.

Bloody blokes a loser. Alive but dead.
Weird how inside we know, yet wish we are wrong.
Only to get hurt, again and again and again.....

... My goodness, Axilea. These lines alone speak volumes and the imagery reinforces the sentiment powerfully. The poem as a whole brings new meaning to the term Love Bite. It's sad, isn't it, that if, in a union, the relationship is dead for one... that necessarily is murderous also to the other, however much it might be wished to spare them that pain? Well-developped thoughts here. TY Kate xx

I love t-at you tinted your virtual ink for t-is one. The w-ole t-ing reminds me of Sand Man, reac-ing out, and -is -and disolving into particles, blowing away in the breeze. And in my mout-, t-ere's a bit of alum t-at dries and pickles my tongue... It is (as my sister would say) a "very extrememly" sad story-- suc- a waste of -umanity-- packing sand castles around air to build, rat-er t-an around more sand, or some concrete object.

On a different note, I t-ink Amber stole an "h" out of my tote. If you've got one to spare... --C-arlie

Such an amazing poem, Axileah,

I find myself always using my gut instinct where love is concerned. If I get the feeling that something isn't quite right, it is almost always dead on accurate.. We all know deep inside, when love is beautiful or deadly...Choices, that is where safety and love resides.
Peace, love, and light,
