Your world
made of authenticity
allows you to go deep
and when you reach the essence
a little sparkle in your eyes
needs to embrace in enjoyment
and put the flourishes
on the walls of your home
on our computer screens
                    then
your world
is somehow close to mine
                    and
as we are staring at the distance
distinctly we can see
the ashes turn to embers
our grandmothers young again
hear the stones breathe softly
like prayers in the wind.

There's so much patience
and understanding
in our human fabric -
as I fold my daughter's T-shirt
the smell of clean cotton reminds me of how
shared heartfelt words
are like being born again

Axilea - Enjoyed The Smell Of White Cotton, especially after reading Charlie's The Fabric Of Life. Interesting to see how you both approached the poems. Especially liked the reversal of,

the ashes turn to embers
our grandmothers young again
hear the stones breathe softly
like prayers in the wind.

and the imagery of

as I fold my daughter's T-shirt
the smell of clean cotton reminds me of how
shared heartfelt words
are like being born again.

I'm always curious to see how you've chosen to express yourself. - David

I had to remove all my wife's clothing when she died as it brought tears to my eyes when ever I saw a particular dress and the memories it stirred in me.

Your poem has a life of its own--
I grab its tail and take flight.

Thanks for helping me with the laundry! --Charlie

wooooaaaa, blimey o'reilly ... the line -our grandmothers young again, says so much and is so profound, the whole poem has a special feel to it, yet that line.... well in 50 years will someone be saying that about you, as you're pushing up the daisies, as will the rest here.... Life is so short, wasting it is what most do best...

There is so much sometimes in common scents that surround us that can trigger out of body travels to memories and people that have gone before. This write is beautiful and heart touching but more...it is real.

Smells and fragrances surely do bring back memories. Every time I smell bread baking it reminds me of my Nana, I surely miss her..

This has a touch of nostalgia about it... yet reminded me of cotton sheets blowing in the air and how the air, full of humidity, must feel when that cotton is ripe for picking.
