Beloved – unchained and left behind

Below,
at her feet,
is Beloved,
a doll with a patchwork dress,
given with a treacherous smile,
to silence the evidence of tears -

She looks out,
past the heavy gate…
       Choice
is a far-off place
(that doesn’t seem real in isolation)
on this chilly night
that carries sparkles of spring,
the scent of freedom
dizzies her clear soul -

Unbent
against the blending sky,
she watches tiny floaters,
parcels of reality trapped
in the vitreous humor,
within her very eyes -

She opens the window
slowly, silently, secretly
and the old leather suitcase
waits next to her
with a smile hushed – stuffed with hope –
                            (can she give Her up?)

Oh, the burden of a doll to love,
inanimate object chained to a child well alive.

Child felt abandoned? No choice, yet her soul was clear.
Shows we all have a choice to control our minds even if we cannot control our circumstances. We do what we have to do with clear conscience.

Highly intellectual yet soulful right Axilea. Thanks you for the teachings.

Axilea:

This forced my brain into action - just as all good poetry should.

I love the way you bring out this frozen moment of the relation of a child with her doll, "Beloved". Great poem!

So manyreally good lines here Axilea...with those emotions brought out it is hard to find the one which expresses the most emotion...objects of affection can help and or hurt the outcome of a decision...yet it is that line where you write...

the scent of freedom
dizzies her clear soul

which stands out and displays a need to escape from the past and into the futureof unknown...

freedom...

nice work...

Precious memento hanging in suspended animation...security token that says "this doll is for you - keep me forever - in a grown woman is eternally the little girl"...Axilea, Beloved - unchained and left behind has everlasting significance...it just means we are going away to grow up for a spell - we slip out the window and venture out to find companion dolls to keep our dolls company...one thing, though, this poetry has staying power because it's been liberated through the eyes of a doll...be well.

Love,
Sage

You have built and structured this poem so well. I love and admire your discipline, Axilea: never a word too much or too few to bring out your work's full meaning. So much in here with some striking ideas - Choice being "a far-off place" and that last couplet so strong it stands on its own. As always, a poetic feast that intrigues, delights and sustains. ...but oh what a pang
to watch Beloved fall
flitting down
through flights of unfained
smiles and secret longings...

Had not they climbed those same stairs together
many-a-many a time?

With cloth-hearted sympathy,
she imagined those absent, open eyes
looking up into another child's gaze
and turned from the window,
smiling down at smile-specked,
wry-grinning eyes, and sighed...

She closed up more
than patchwork cloth
and pretence then.
She stowed away
a suitcase full of smiles.

(Couldn't resist. You're awesome!)

Awwww, keep the doll and all the wonderful, heartfelt memories she conjures by her presence. A reminder of the child we still are....

Be always safe,

Axilea,
You are definitely one of the few genuine poets on Author's Den; congratulations! You are indeed intelligent, articulate, imaginative, straight-forward, & gifted. You use words/phrases with such a spartan panache -- "chilly night that carries sparkles of spring, the scent of freedom dizzies her... soul - unbent against the blending sky... tiny floaters, parcels of reality trapped in the vitreous humor, within her very eyes - ." Artful, and lovely expressions.

I look forward to reading more.

This left childs and sadness in it's wake as I contemplated the meaning, it brought back memories of another little girl (my daughter) who lived with her mother and step mother and broke down crying one day when I had her on the weekends. She told me the verbal abuse she was getting had made her pack a suitcase and it was at home under her bed...the next morning we went to my lawyer.
