For those who remember...

Poem Artwork

The Celts and Druids
Called it Samhain,
Their name for summer's end
And the beginning
Of another year.
It was one of two nights
During the year
When the veil
Between the worlds
Was thinnest,
When spirits and wee folk
Frolicked,
Moving freely among us,
Visiting their loved ones
Left behind,
While beguiling the rest of us
With fanciful glamours
And spells,
And all manner
Of benign
And malignant
Temptations.
“Beware!”
The children were told
Else they would vanish
Into the realm
Of the Fairy King,
Not to be seen again
Until long after
Their last blood kin
Had died
And turned to dust.

A fine reminder, Rebecca. My ancestors were/are Celts and I knew of this "legend" but it is very nice to be reminded again. Thank you! Love and best wishes to you,

Regis. 🧙‍♀️👻🎃🦇💛🌼

You've given us a history lesson as to the origin of the legend we now call, Halloween.

Seems to have all the trappings of Halloween and down to the "benign and malignant temptations." Nicely penned. John
