And she did not desire fame
Only to have a seat on a bus
Little knowing this would cause a fuss
That was heard ‘round the world.
She made her stand by sitting down
When asked to move by a white with a frown
But decided to stake her claim
And keep the seat that had no name.
What a brave person was she!
Little knowing what her actions cause,
She road that bus, but signed no clause
That said she would not do it again;
Stiff upper Rosa Parks was her name
lip and defiant chin
She stayed where she was and remained calm.
Years later, her cause would become a vic’try
To others who wanted justice to be free
And make themselves heard
Throughout the world
That freedom was the right of everyone.
Today she lies in state in our capitol
Not knowing anything about it ‘cept her soul
Is now in Heaven and others must fight
To continue gaining vic’try e’en through the night
That others might not suffer.
God bless this woman of a simple life
Who paved the way for others’ strife,
That they may continue the march she started
And stare down those who would keep Man parted
And never say, “I have a dream.”
