A poem about the harshness of the Australian bush and the independence of spirit it sometimes engenders. This is a character piece in which differences of political persuasion do not subtract from a friendship launched by the harsh terrain and based upon mutual respect and fondness.

This poem was initially published by the South Australian literary journal 'Vernacular ', also, quite a bit later, it found a more international audience in the Welsh literary journal 'The Seventh Quarry'. The poem was also highly placed in a Queensland literary competition early in its 'career'.
