Wrote this when I was 12 and missing my dad who worked on a merchant ship at that time.. Just found the original draft and thought I'd share it.

Where must my daddy be
Oh! where must be he?
Collecting gold on Treasure Island
Or swimming in the sea?

He says each year he goes away,
To bring me toys with which I play
But where he sails night and day
How can I say?

He comes back with frocks and socks
For he cannot sew
He comes back with ribbons for my locks
And dollies nice and new

Where must my daddy be
Oh! where must be he?
Is he a pirate with a patched up eye
Or is he fishing merrily?

He comes with stories of afar
Of places far from where we are.
His ship must be so fast to get to so many lands
Just like a flying car.

But wherever my daddy is
I know that he loves me.
