what is it about a man's shoulder
that invites a woman's tears
to fall gently against its slope
as though god fashioned it
for just such a mission in life?
only a shoulder, not so different
from my own, except perhaps
wider, stronger, with muscles
that would look ridiculous on mine
only a shoulder and yet
so much more than a body part
a place of consolation and safety
a reputable depository for my tears
not raising fear that my heart
will be bankrupted in the end
even though it's possible it may
what is it about the blanket of tender care
only a man can wrap around a woman
and the confidence it inspires in her
to believe for a better day?
and what is it about a woman's breasts
their familiar, accepting warmth
offering a weary man a soft pillow
an intimate resting place to be found
nowhere else in a cold, impersonal world?
as though god created them
for just such a mission in life
Aaaah, my friend, I believe He did make them for just that purpose, indeed! Your words are right on point! a woman draws strength from a man, his shoulder is a symbol of that strength, just as a woman's breast is a symbol of comfort and tranquility! this is a joy to read!
A man's shoulder is big and protective...that's why it's very inviting for me and a woman's breast is soft and comforting(well, mine are, lol)I guess that's why a man would find them a place of rest, like it was with their mamas when they were younger

Shoulders and breasts, always inviting the sorrow to lean upon or the longing for receiving tenderness on those soft mounts.
But not all shoulders will console as not all breasts will nurture, if one are lucky, and blessed, one can find one of those in her/his lifetime and nobody can wish more.

I agree with Sandie and Felix, its a comfort thing more than sexual. We all need a 'refuge' when we are sad, and sometimes when we aren't sad we just need to be held. Excellent poem, my friend.
I enjoyed this one Belle and there is so much truth in it and it is not just a sexual thing but a comfort thing to be able to turn to somoene of the opposite sex for close comfort. It may be a parent, a sibling, a cousin or just a friend but the effect is usually the same when we need it. Wonderful musings indeed and may you always have a shoulder to lean on when you need it...if not there will always be my proverbial cyber shoulder..
