Tangled Heartstrings

i will serve you a slice of my soul
wrapped in warm words
a gracious glimpse of my heart
in each line of poetry penned

how i wish i could give you more
than something sensed ethereally
on a fragile breeze of lilting love songs

a tracing of feminine fingertips
against your closed eyelids
comfort of tender loving arms
encircling your neck or waist

the sweet fire of lips brushing lips
and blending breath swirling
into a cyclone of passion

but i am only a voice on the breeze
rising, falling, gently caressing you
like a soft, spring mountain zephyr

or raging through dark canyons
of your desires at midnight
like a fierce firestorm fueled
by the wild santa ana winds

and when the wind has died down
when the storm at last has ended
do not forget my gentle caress
or the fiery fury of my passion

remember me and honest gifts
sent from heart and pen of one
who wanted to give more than whispers
and desired to share much more
than the secret of tangled heartstrings
