Most impressive of buildings
Sparkling spires
outlined against the sky
A tribute to her beauty
unchanging as time went by
Wonder of the world, memorial of love
Darkness deep within its bowels
Gilded towers gleam above
She bore him sons and daughters
gave all the days and years of her life
Forced to share him with others
known as his “Favorite Wife”
A lifetime is so fleeting
Laid within it all too soon
It resembled a goddess temple
but he built for her a tomb
A real tribute to the beauty, mystery and charm of the tomb of the Raj's favorite wife. Unfortunately, close-up, like many monuments of age, she shows her age with the weathered dull marble and long neglected landscaping. The reality of these places often dispels the fantasy.
The 'Taj Majal' rises above the banks of the river like a solitary tear suspended on the cheek of time. According to Rudyard Kipling: "It seemed the embodiment of all things PURE, all things HOLY, and ALL things unhappy. That was the mystery of the building." A thought-provoking write.
