Remembering a day from long ago
a warm spring, Saturday morning
to the strawberry fields we'd go
the scent was simply delicious
as we walked past row after row
excited and happy my two little boys
with baskets half full and cheeks stuffed
just watching you gave me such joy
I told the farmer I'd pay extra
for all the berries you ate
as we prepared to pay
at the big metal farm gate
he said the fields were full and ripe
watching children eating berries
was his true pleasure, his delight
I remember those days from long ago
how to forget them, I don't know
though your love you withhold from me
two happy little boys with red mouths
I still think of and see, often in a memory
and I know there will always be for me

What a wonderful picture and what a wonderful memory! I see the resemblance. I just wrote in the story section about my twin brother and I working at our grandparents truck farm when we were seven or eight, picking strawberries and wild berries for most of that summer. I can't even imagine how many we ate!
