Now Everybody Believes!

Poem Artwork

The unicorn went out on Christmas Eve

to challenge the doubters who didn't believe.

She knew she was real, though many did not.

She walked through the snow reaching a trot.

She tossed her mane and said to herself,

“Why do they doubt me but believe in an elf?”

Christmas was coming, it was almost there.

The poor were praying their Christmas prayer,

“Lord, give us this day our daily bread

and keep us safe while we sleep in our bed.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive others

our mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers.”

She looked in the window trying to see

what the food for the holiday feast would be

There were only four apples and a slice of bread;

It filled the unicorn's kind heart with dread.

She decided to help but what could she do?

She thought and thought and thought it through

She galloped into the village to find some aid.

The villagers gave, expecting nothing to be paid.

They were thrilled to see at last a real unicorn.

They'd never seen one and imaginations were worn.

They loaded the unicorn down with dinner and dessert.

The bags were so heavy her tender back hurt.

All through the snowy night the unicorn ran

bearing food and gifts for each child, woman and man.

Early Christmas morning she stood in the yard

though the weight of the bags to bear was hard.

The family had a feast and gifts from the bags.

They had new, warm clothing in place of pitiful rags

They fed the unicorn and gave a blanket so warm

before sending her on her way and praying for no harm

They gave thanks to God and the unicorn so sweet.

They tied lines of jingle bells on her delicate feet.

Never again was doubting the Christmas norm.

Everyone now believed in the magical unicorn.

Reminded of the tale of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer as I read this. Very fashionable and unique, like you always are with your poetry.

Merry Christmas!

Ron
