we all become a rock when we need to be, some of us are born one.

smileing at the world, she never cries.
laughing out loud, dying inside
helping people through thier petty existance
if they had her life they'd die in an instant
showing the world what they need her to be,
she's dying alone because they fail to see.
she gives them hope, and comforts thier fears
she wrapps them in love and shes done it for years
and at night when shes weiry, alone in her bed
so many past images run through her head
she tosses and turns but sleep doesn't come
and she thinks how easy it is for some.
with a pack of smokes and a glass of wine,
another sleepless night thats just fine,
just fine...

It's not fine, I understand the tossing and turning, having arthritis
throughout my body, at a young age of 47yrs.
Could be worse is all I think, as I ice and take Aleves 500milgr.

Some times we can get to much into helping others trying to save them and forget about ourself. I have been there done that. We cannot completly help others until we can help ourselves.
Good write.

It's amazing how one can smile and be dying inside. There are many who help others and do not ask for help themselves. I like how you ended this with "just fine" repeated. It's very telling. Good poem.

Crissy, this poem speaks, no one knows the heart of another person and no one knows the torture some endures. Keeping those secrets locked inside can cause serious problems...we should find someone to share the pain.

A tortured soul yet magnanimous. I suppose there are few people like your character. To give, never to receive and suffering at the same time. Most of us just whine and want more. Very effective poem. Victor

Crissy,

Your poem reminded me a little of a Simon & Garfunkel tune.
"A rock feels no pain and an island never cries." Also sounds alot like a Mom. A beginning of sorts never ends.
