A poem that came to me after admiring an old photo........

Poem Artwork

LADY CLAIRE

Her name

Lady Claire

Vision of succulence

Satin skin

Luscious lips

Melancholy eyes

Stunning beauty

Sublime

Her tender heart

Enamored

Handsome erstwhile lover

Noble Captain Barnes

Dashing Spice Merchant

So refined

Debonair

His letters

Filled with promise

Passionate desire

Dreams of bliss

Betrothal

Abruptly discontinued

Rueful tragedy

Succumbed to Malaria

Returned to Mother Earth

South African goodbye

Patiently

She waits

The silent halls

Obsessed

Her smothered sobs

Still echo

Haunting apparition

Elm Streets master chamber

Five score years have passed

No rest for her it seems

1907

Or was it just a dream?

Wonderful imagination, a complete story in a pared down poem, with a surprise ending. Excellent writing.
