What's that Sound?

What's that sound?
It is like a ticking in my head,

Is it the foot steps of
My lover drawing near,

Is it the beating of my heart
That anxiously awaits his touch
A pleasure I've grown to love
And miss ever so much,

Is it the whistling of the wind
That brings to mind
That summer's at an end,

Is it the beautiful music
From love songs of long ago
Or the foot steps of lovers dancing to and fro,

Is it the silent thought
That my love and I are no more,

Though I wish it to be
The sound of my lover saying
I love you, I care
And we have the rest of our lives to share,

A sound such as this
Would be beautiful music to my ear,

What's that sound?
You know its not perfectly clear
