This is a short poem that my mom wrote for my siblings back in the 1950s before I was born. Short and sweet and we all remember it every year at Halloween.
Black cats and witches
Sneak out of the ditches
To scare Halloweeners
Out of their britches
It matters not if the poem is short. The thing of importance is: your mom created it for you and your siblings as a form of entertainment and as a means of remembering her over the years with abiding love. I'm 72 and still recall little things like this that my mother taught me and my siblings years and years ago. And as I look at the picture of your mom, I can see an expression of love, sweetness, and beauty—all the traits I found in my own mother. Too, as I look at her picture, it reminds me of how much I miss the older generation and long to have them in our presence again. I miss their stories, their verbal expressions, their willingness to just sit and talk with us, their hands that toiled for us out of love, their kindness, their inspiration, their faith in God, and so much more. Thank you, Mendy, for this short poem and the photo of your mom. You may not realize it, but you have made my day. You mom was a beautiful lady.
