Sing My Lovely Whippoorwill

I hobbled to the front porch...thinking in delight...Come back to me...

I waste not a drop of ink

On my quill pen

The thoughts I wish to share

Call upon me this morning

The whippoorwill

I hobbled to the front porch

My rickety old bones

Be it on a limb

High in a tree

It sang and sang

As the leaves spiral before me

I thought in delight

If it is telling me

It must go

Only to sing me a farewell song

Till come spring once more

I smiled

Then cast some seed to the ground

Come back to me

Said I to my lovely friend

When the frost has left the mountain

And return spring buds

Then

I'll be longing to hear your lovely song

Once more

Should the winter frost

Take my soul

Sing once more my lovely whippoorwill

For

From Heaven I'll be listening

This is a first for me to read one of yours. And, it is both delightful, and beautiful. You too, sing the song of love for beauty and quality. Don't be too willing to NOT be there in the Spring. Good luck on that, and keep posting for us. Thankk you for a touch of sweetness. .

A melancholy, but undeniably sweet poem as is the sound of the whippoorwill.

Beautiful song and a good picture of what this heard about but never seen tree is like. Loved it all except that ending although that too is open to interpretation...
