It’s harder to go on without you
My heart lost what was best
It’s harder to show interest
Harder to pretend
It’s harder to go on without you.

It’s harder to have hopes without you

My eyes have lost their joy

It’s harder to laugh

Much less to dream

It’s just harder to have hopes without you.

I try to keep on in your absence

Though each day I ask, ‘For what’?

I try to get up

Each blessed day

And determine what is, what is not.

So difficult and sad. Pick up the pieces and try to move on, easier said than done.

What great love inspires such melancholy! This is a beauty...I'm a sucker for sad, romantic writes.

This is exactly what the title describes, a lament. Very effective and sad, and a great introspective ending which actually seems positive to me.
